There were so many great photos that it is really hard to choose the best one. I had a very hard time choosing the winner of our Fort lauderdale group. I can’t imagine what hard time Scott and his people had choosing the overall winner.

Give a look and let me know if you agree with their choices.

Worldwide Photowalk - Fort Lauderdale - The Best Group Ever

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

paulo jordao photowalk

First of all, I would like to thank everybody that came to our Worldwide Photowalk - Fort Lauderdale Photowalk (Part 2). We had an incredible number of 65 Participants (Photowalkers) on this gorgeous day here in South Florida, and I hope that everybody have enjoyed the day as much as I had.

I can truly say that you made this group one the strongest group of the whole Worldwide Photowalk. I have checked the other city Flickr groups, and they didn’t have even half of the number of people that we have signed to their Flickr group yet. We already had 48 members signed on our group even before the Photowalk started.

You made me PROUD!!! I couldn’t have asked for a better group, and I can not stress enough how much I appreciate all the compliments that I’ve received from most of you.

Photowalk Group

Few people already have started downloading their pictures to our Flickr group (Click Here to Check our Flickr Group), and I have to say that I am very impressed with the results.

When I chose that specific location, I knew that the beach and the pier would provide us some good pictures, but I knew also that the location wouldn’t have beautiful canals, old railroad and not even gorgeous or antique buildings.

I didn’t want to make this Photowalk to look like some “tourist reunion”, where people just keep taking pictures of old monuments and historic sites (wherever you point your camera you would have a “great tourist shot” anyway). NO!!! I wanted you to go one step ahead and prove to yourself that you could walk in a regular street and still capture some beautiful and unique images.

For what I have seen already in our Flickr Group, you have exceeded my expectations.

So!!! For that, and much more…

=== I AM GLAD THAT YOU WERE PART OF OUR GROUP ===

PS. Our Next PHOTOWALK will in October. I have to decide between October 05 (Sunday) or Oct 26 (Sunday) in Hollywood, FL. Let me know what day is the best day for you. OK?

Photowalk - Few Tips for City Leaders and Photographers

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

First of all, I want to apologize to people that like to read short blogs. I am writing this post to help people that like Photowalk, and unfortunately I couldn’t make this post too short.

Collage of Photowalk

As you might know, this weekend (Saturday - August 23) is our Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk. More than 6,500 Photographers from approximately 240 countries around the world will be walking and taking pictures of the most beautiful and interesting streets and their surroundings.

Few weeks ago, I was invited to be the leader of not just one city, but of the whole South Florida Photowalk. At that time, Scott was still putting the last details together having in mind to sign in only 100 cities for this Worldwide Photowalk.

I had the choice to choose what city here in South Florida I would select to have our Photowalk. Scott even asked me about the amazing city of South Beach.

I loved his suggestion, and I started thinking about what I would need to do to make the South Florida Photowalk happen in South Beach. I thought about the route, parking lots and restaurants to have the photographers together after the event and etc.

For who doesn’t know South Florida, we have three major cities (Miami, Ft Lauderdale and Palm Beaches) connecting dozen of other small cities together. You can say that Fort Lauderdale is half way between Miami and Palm Beaches, so I was getting concerned about people from Palm Beaches or even Fort Lauderdale wouldn’t like to drive to South Beach for this event.

After much thinking and driving (checking few different locations), I finally chose the actual location for our Photowalk (Click here).

Now, I would like to share with you few tips on how to help your group to enjoy the most of their Photowalk (not just this one, but future photowalks that you might organize):

Choosing a Good Date and Time:

On this case our Photowalk is Saturday - August 23 (It is a good idea have the Photowalk on a Saturday or Sunday). Most of Photowalks are organized to happen in the morning, but you can find or organize an evening event too.

Selecting a City and Street:

You need to choose a city close where you live, or maybe you might be traveling for vacation and etc. To choose the route to Photowalk, would be good you do a little of research about parking lots and restaurants in that area. You also want a route that offers you and the pother photographers some nice things to be taken pictures like, buildings, bridges, railroad, parks, beaches, etc.

Inviting People:

You have to let people know that you are organizing one photowalk on your area. To invite people to participate of your Photowalk, you should write some posts on your blog, invite other blogers, write some emails to few different camera clubs and associations, etc. We didn’t have to go through all this effort for this Worldwide Photowalk… Scott Kelby’s name was good enough to make people all over the world sign in few weeks in advanced.

Equipment:

You need to bring your camera (SLR or Point and Shoot). That is it!!! :-) … I wish that it was that easy. Don’t forget your bag, cards, batteries, lenses and etc. You might not need an external flash or a tripod, but it is your choice to bring them or not. Just remember that you are going to be walking for one or two hours (go easy on how much stuff you want to bring with you).

Last Details:

Remember that Photowalk is an outside event and that you should be aware of few details like; water, snacks, hat, appropriate clothing, sun block, comfortable shoes and etc.

My Personal TIP:

When I organize my Photowalks;

- I generally buy some name tags so every photographer can write his or her name on it (better than have to keep asking people’s name).

- I ask some local small business’ owners for some give away prices that I can give to the photographers (sponsorship) in exchange for their name in my blog.

- I always get 20 to 30 minutes earlier at the location designated for the Photowalk.

- I like to take pictures of the group together

- I try don’t think too much about my own pictures. I am there to have fun and meet other photographers too.

- I always have my Flick group created weeks before the event.

- I Contact the local media (TV, Radio and Newspaper)

- Business Card… Always bring a lot of them!!!

I hope that you read all this post from the beginning to the end, and that it helped you in somehow.

See you at your next Photowalk.

Photowalk Fort Lauderdale - Miami - Palm Beaches

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

If you were waiting for another Photowalk here in Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Palm Beaches area, this is the event that you were waiting for.

On August 23, 2008 9:00 am, we are going to have our “PHOTOWALK FORT LAUDERDALE 2″ in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea = Commercial and A1A = (click here for the route). We are organizing this Photowalk joining forces with Scott Kelby on the attempt to have 100 cities around the world having a Photowalk on the same day. Scott thought that would be really cool idea to do something different to celebrate the release of his new book Lightroom 2.

South Florida has so many different and beautiful places to do a Photowalk that it was hard to pick only one location for this event. I chose Lauderdale-By-The-Sea area because of its history, the beautiful beach, easy parking and one of the most beautiful and well preserved pier where people come to enjoy the great view and the opportunity to fish.
The location is also well known for its great bars and restaurants with all kind of foods and drinks.

If you join us for this Photowalk, you will have a great opportunity to take some of the most amazing pictures of the streets and the surroundings of that area, and you will also have an incredible opportunity to get some great shots of beautiful people at the beach, surfing, diving, fishing and etc.

You might also have the opportunity of meeting different people, including few of the most renamed Photographers of South Florida.

Remember that this is a FREE event but we are asking you to Sign In so we can have a better control of how many people are coming. OK? (Click Here to Sign In)

Let’s have some fun together. I am waiting for you!!!

Collage of Photowalk

Blog, Twitter and Flickr…, these are my three new great ways to keep in contact with people that want to know a little more about me and my work.

If you are reading this post, means that you are on my Blog ( www.paulopics.com/blog ). Here I write about some of my work, clients and some personal stuff also.

My next “thing” is TWITTER. There, I write 3 or four times a day just little sentences about what I am doing of my day. You can also check the notes from Twitter on the landing page of my website www.paulopics.com.

And two months ago I signed to FLICKR (you can post some random pictures there). I use Flickr to organize a group that I created FORT LAUDERDALE PHOTOWALK. There you can check not just pictures that I’ve taken, but also pictures of everybody that is part of that group.

Let me know if I can help you with your Blog, Twitter or Flickr. OK?

Photowalk in Fort Lauderdale - What to Bring to a Photowalk

Friday, June 20th, 2008

OK! The Fort Lauderdale Photowalk is almost here, and it is normal to start thinking about what you should bring to this walk.

Before I give you a list of things that you should bring with you Sunday, I want to give you few Links related to this Photowalk:

-  Check some Pictures that you might be taken

- 1.7 miles ROUTE

- Where to download your pictres

We are going to meet around 9:45am in front a little water fountain at Las Olas Riverfront, Fort Lauderdale. There are few different places there that you can park your car, even a valet parking. If you get lost call me: 954-270-0751. We will be there no matter what (Rain or Sun)!!!

Remember that this is a FREE event and that you can bring friends, family and even kids. I would recommend to every body (even kids) to have a camera (even if it is a $3.00 disposable camera) so you can really enjoy all that Photowalk has to offer.

So… What should you bring?

CAMERA- YES!!! After all… this is a Photowalk. It can be a “Professional Camera” or a ”Point and Shoot”. Remeber to check the “battery” and the “digital card” or “film”.

LENSES- I will bring just my 17 - 55mm, but you can choose whatever works better for you (just remember that we are going to be walking and heavy lenses might be too intrusive to other people and hard to carry around)

TRIPOD- For me… It is a NO!!! This is a personal choice. Since it will be daylight and I don’t want to carry extra weight, so I will not bring mine (some places give a hard time to photographers with tripod).

FLASH- It is a MAYBE. Most of the time you will not need one. Just if you want to take some portraits of people to.

WATER- Yes!

SNACKS- :-)

I think that you got the idea already…

You can stay for the whole 1.7 miles, or as long as you feel that works for you. At the end we might grab some drink or some brunch and talk about our experience. That is the beauty of this event, you will meet people that have something in common with you.

Don’t forget to bring a lot of BUSINESS CARDS.

Just to remind you…

I can not thank enough GOLD’S GYM Hollywood, that gave us “20 T-Shirts” for this event, plus few “1 week free workout pass”.

I will see you there this SUNDAY. OK?

Photowalk in Fort Lauderdale - What you need to know!

Monday, June 16th, 2008

So, it is a date… The Fort Lauderdale Photowalk is going to happen this Sunday, June 22 at 10:00 am.

I want to invite all Photographers (Professional or Amateur) and all Photography Lovers to join us on this fun and inspirational adventure that is Photowalk. You can come alone or bring some friends and even your family. I am bringing mine (IT IS FREE)!

A photowalk is the act of walking around with your camera and photographing your surroundings. Recently the term has become synonymous with a group of photographers (professional or amateur), with big or smaller cameras, walking in predetermined locations and then sharing their imagery. Alone or with a group, the purpose is still the same and that is to go out and shoot.

We are going to meet around 9:45am at Las Olas Riverfront (300 Southwest 1st Avenue Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312). They have a little outside water-fountain that is going to be our meeting point. OK? But because South Florida weather is so unpredictable and most of our summer rain goes away as fast as it came, I want to assure you that we will be there, no matter what… Sunny or Raining. If it’s raining we will relocate our meeting point to the first floor, close to the escalators.

I don’t know how many people are attending this Photowalk, as I said before, the more the merrier. Photographers, friends and people that read my blog, have been contacting me asking me more detail about the Photowalk, so I hope that we have a good number of people there.

Few news papers and TV stations have contact me also. They might even show up there on Sunday. I also got a Sponsorship from GOLD’S GYM HOLLYWOOD that is giving us 20 T-shirts + few 1week free workout pass for this event.

Just in case you get lost, here is my CELL: 954-270-0751 .

The route is a 1.7 miles long ( CLICK HERE to check the ROUTE ), and because it passes through Las Olas Riverfront, old and historic Fort Lauderdale, New River and Las Olas Boulevard, we will have the opportunity to bring home some great shots ( Click Here to Check some SAMPLES ).

So…

If you like to take pictures… this event is right for you,

If you like just to walk… this event is right for you,

If you like to meet new people… this event is right for you,

If you like to bring your family to something fun… this event is right for you,

BUT… IF YOU LIKE ALL THE ABOVE

YOU WILL BE IN HEAVEN!!!
