This week was a great week for me. I had three great “Pin-Up Party” here at my Home-Studio.

Each hostess (girl responsible for organizing the party) brought 3 to 6 friends, and they enjoyed some wine and snacks while spending some time with our Professional Makeup Artist.

Once they’re done with their makeup, its time to make some beautiful and tasty boudoir / glamour photo shoot.

What is Pin-Up Party?

A Pin-Up Party are perfect for BACHELORETTE PARTIES, BIRTHDAYS or just a GIRL’S DAY OUT.

The best way to explain what a Pin-Up Party is, is to think like you’re going to a Girls Night Out or a Bachelorette Party to have some fun with your best girlfriends. But instead of going to a crowded bar, you come to our place, where you and your friends will be pampered with a Professional Makeup Artist, a Flirty Boudoir Photo Session, snacks, wine, and etc (you can also choose to have the Pin-Up Party at your house or a hotel of your choice).

How do I book a Pin-Up Party?

Minimum of 4 girls required (you + 3 friends).

When you book a Pin-Up Party, you are the “hostess” of the party and all you need is to choose the date and invite 3 to 6 of your closest friends!

What are the “hostess” duties?

As  the “hostess”, you will be the person organizing the event and your duties include inviting your friends to the Pin-Up Party, updating them with all the information (date, prices, location, time, clothing and etc), and confirming their bookings.

If you bring 3 or more friends, your “regular” session is free.

What is the cost for each girl?

Since each person has different needs when choosing their print sizes or packages, we’ve decided to create the discounted rate below for your session only:

Regular: $99

- 20 minutes shooting/ one look/ one background/ few different poses

Pamper: $149

- 30 minutes shooting/ two looks/ two backgrounds/ few different poses

*The prices above are only for the session fee, and covers the time and talent of the photographer, and does not include any product. All photos and products can be purchased A La Carte immediately after your session (no minimum purchase required - you just buy the pictures you like).

*The Party, with wine, water and snacks is our courtesy, but there is a $10 tip requirement (per girl) for the Makeup Artist.

If you are reading this article, I will assume that you are getting married, and you are trying to find a Photographer that can fit into your budget. But before I explain to you the reason of “Why You Should Hire a Top Wedding Photographer”, I would like to you to follow my line of thinking for a minute. OK?

Imagine that you just came from your vacation and started downloading all the pictures that you’ve taken there. Maybe you’ve taken 200 or 300 pictures, but when you start looking up close to the pictures on your screen you notice that they are not as great as you thought that they would be. Some are blurred, some over exposed, some are under exposed, some are very flat and some are OK. You might even think; “that is great! I have 20 good pictures from the 200 that I took”, and probably you won’t even print them anyway.

This is the reality of today’s digital photography. Most people don’t print the majority of the pictures that they take, and few people even try to print their pictures on their own home printer (very bad quality).

How does this little story affect you and your decision to select a Top Wedding Photographer?

Almost everybody owns a digital camera today. Some people have even started calling themselves “Photographers”, and your low end photographers will try to give you good deal by charging you just to shoot your wedding and give you a CD with all the pictures from your wedding on it.

If you are really on the budget and your wedding will be a very simple ceremony and small reception, and you just want to be able to have something to remember that day, then maybe; just maybe, this Photographer will be ok for you. But remember about the story on the beginning of this article (you will not like what you going to get at the end).

One more thing! If you are really on the budget and can not afford a good photographer, why are you going to pay for a bad one? On this case, just ask a friend or a family member to take some shots. It is free!

On the other hand, your wedding is the most special day of your life and if you have been planning it for a long time and it is a major investment of your hard earned money, the last thing that you need is a “self claimed photographer” that might not deliver a desired final product.

You don’t want a poor food for your Reception Dinner or a small cake that was made at the grocery store to be your Wedding Cake. Not because they are not good, but because this is about the day that you have been dreaming for a long, long time. This is a “ONCE in a LIFETIME” event and you want everything to be 100% special.

The same should apply to your Wedding Photography. If there was the perfect moment to use the phrase “One picture can tell more than 1,000 words”, this would be it. A Top Wedding Photographer will capture not just the reality of that beautiful day, but this artist will use his/her talent to translate the image into a unique piece of art.

A good Photographer will also edit your pictures to their best quality, enhancing the color, light, composition and sharpness of each picture. If you try to print your pictures without they’ve been properly edited, you might end with average pictures that will not look very good.

Holiday Portraits - How to take great pictures.

Let me start explaining that for me, photography is the art of capturing a special moment (digital or film). Anybody can take a picture but not every person taking pictures is a Photographer, and there is a difference between a picture from an average person with a average camera and a picture taken from a good professional photographer with a good camera, lens, lighting, props, etc.

Here are few sugestions to make a nice Holiday Portrait;

- Who is your subject?

First decide if you are shooting only one person or the whole family. This will help you to descide about your composition and how to set your camera (if you’re using a DSLR camera)

- What do you have as your background and what props will you use?

Sometimes you just need a good idea to make a great picture, other times you will need backdrop, pine tree, sled, fake snow, etc.

- What kind of light?

Here is what makes the difference between an average picture and a professional one. You need to decide if you’re using window light and reflectors, strobes, or continuous lighting. This year I’ve been trying to use only my new set of 4 continuous lighting (3,000 watts).

School Portraits - Holiday Portraits - Tips and Suggestions

This week I was shooting some Holiday Portraits for one school here in my city. I love to shoot kids Portraits in my home-studio, but it can be very challenging when you have to do it in a school.

Here are some tips and sugestions to help you with your next school portrait session:

Time: Remember schedule your day with some extra time, you’re not shooting only one or two portraits. I might have dozens, if not hundreds of students on that school.

Bring your background and Studio Lights - I don’t like the idea of having to pack my strobes, soft boxes, backgrounds and etc. It takes time pack it from your studio, set up at the school, pack at the school and set up back in your studio. But if you are concerned with the quality of your work, that is what you should do.

Assistants: You should bring at least one or two assistants to help you with setting up your equipment, organizing the students and going over each student package and order.

What lights to Bring:Last year I brought three strobes from my home-studio 1- main light, 2- Fill, 3- hair light (notice that I chose not use a background light - I wanted something a little different from past years). The images came out amazing, but I remember how challenging it was to keep the students focused in looking to my camera instead of pay attention on my strobes every time they’ve fired.

This year I brought four kits of my continuous fluorescent lighting and it made a huge difference. I could use an aperture of 4.0 to blur more my background.

Here is an update from my last post.

As I mentioned earlier, this was one of the most beautiful event of the year. They didn’t have only Seven (7) new amazing inductees, but few of the most beautiful and successful people of Florida were there to make the night even more special.

Here is one of the highlights of the night, when the inductee John Vanbiesbrouck make an emotional speech recognizing his mom for all her sacrifices and encouragement.

Sports Hall of Fame - Class of 2010.

This week, I had the honor to photograph another amazing event - Sports Hall of Fame (class of 2010).

The event was a success with 7 new inductees and a lot of past inductees.
