Memorial Day Working

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

I know that is a holiday and that most of people don’t work on this day.

But NOT ME!!!

In the morning I had to go to Gold’s GYM to teach a class there, after lunch I enjoyed to edit some more photos from Simon’s Bar Mitzvah and around 5:00pm I went to Downtown Fort Lauderdale to check some route for our Fort Lauderdale PHOTOWALK. Then, when I got home, I had some dinner and came to the computer to edit few more photos and write few posts for my blog.

I don’t know about you… But I am glad that the Holiday is over. :-)

I just Finished editing the pictures that I took from Simon’s Bar Mitzvah last Saturday. But I wanted to show you few more pictures of my personal selection (There are no pictures from the “Party-Time”- they still need to be edited).

I would like to enjoy this moment to tank Simon (Very easy going and made my work even easier) and his Parents for this great party andfor trusting me to be their Photographer.

Every body had such a good time with their great DJ, photo-booth, video-game booth, delicious food, etc.

Ok… Here is the other collage.

Toby Mac on YouTube - I was made to love

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

Few days ago, I was going trough some other Photographer’s blogs and there it was… This web-page showing a little slide-show. But what I loved the most was not the pictures… There it was a music that for some reason I felt deeply connected.

Yesterday night I came from a Bar Mitzvah that I was the Photographer. It was late and I was organizing my files before going to bed. After I finished it, I opened my music files and decided to listen that music one more time…

… Few hours later… :-) yes, few hours later I was still going trough YouTube trying to find anything about the Artist or the Music.

So if you want to give it a try, the Artist isToby Mac and the Music isI was made to love

I hope you have enjoyed as much I did.

More about my new Canon 50mm f/1.4 USM Autofcus Lens

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

I wanted to upload some pictures on my last post, but I didn’t have a subject to shoot other than my son, and he was not on the mood. So I took just these two shots.

Ryan

ryan posing 2

That was in my TV room with a little light coming from a french door on his right hand side (camera settings: NO FLASH - AV - f/1.4 - 1/30s - ISO 100)

At night, just before we went to take a shower, he was goofing around wearing my tennis shoes and using my socks as gloves. So I grabbed the camera and took some more shots.

I decided that I would shoot with the same conditions as I do when I shoot my indoor events using my Canon 580EX II Speedlite TTL Shoe Mount Flash  + THE LIGHTSPHERE from Gary Fong. NOW, the camera setting was on MANUAL - f/1.6 - 1/80s - ISO 100 (PS- On most of my indoor events I shoot ISO 400).

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

I just got my new Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Autofocus Lens today. I have to confess, I am still nervous of shooting with a lens that is not a zoom lens.

This 50mm lens will be a good choice for my Portrait Sessions, but I am not so sure if that will be a good choice for my Event Photography. I still have to try it in a real event to to be sure how confortable I will be with this new lens.

This Saturday, I will be shooting a Bar Mitzvah and I will have this lens in one of my Canons. I shot some test shots few minutes ago (look the pictures here), and looks that this lens is very sharp. And because is a f/1.4 USM I can shoot even in low light situations.

In a month or so I will be buying the Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Autofocus Lens. That wiill be a very good treat to myself.

In few days I will be posting some pictures that I shot with the 50mm. OK?

And don’t forget to save the date JUNE 22, 2008 (SUNDAY 10:00 am) for our Fort Lauderdale Photowalk. OK?

Twitter or not Twitter, that is the question

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Twitter or not Twitter, that is the question. I recently signed with twitter, and for you that doesn’t know what Twitter means, you can visit their page Click Here.

When I signed my new account, I was in doubt about how to use it and what kind of benefit it would give me. But, mainly, it is just a way to you let your friends and people that follow your steps to know what are you doing and what you are up to (like an instant message). It might help me alot with the FORT LAUDERDALE PHOTWALK.

You can use the computer or your cell to send your messages. I didn’t try use my cell for that yet. Personally, I don’t see my self stop doing what I am doing when I am shopping, working out or working outside, just to send a message trough Twitter. I normally update what I am up to 2 or 3 times a day here on my computer, But as I said… I am new with Twitter. But do you know a very cool feature? Every update that I write there, is instantly sent to my Web-site. Give a look - Click Here

My twitter is: paulopics1

Let me know how you use your Twitter. OK?

Photowalk in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Monday, May 19th, 2008

I would like to invite all PHOTOGRAPHERS (professionals, amateurs, enthusiasts, with big or small cameras) to this unique experience that is Photowalk in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I am still looking for a good route (maybe around Las Olas Boulevard - Downtown Fort Lauderdale) and a good date and time (June 21st or 22nd at 10:00 am). I am still accepting suggestions about route and date.

UPDATE ABOUT THE DATE: Most of people are asking me to do it on “SUNDAY - JUNE 22nd at 10:00am”. SO That will be the date. OK? I am still looking about our route. OK?

UPDATE ABOUT THE ROUTE: Click here to check the 1.7 miles around Riverfront and Las Olas Boulevard.

Just in case you don’t know what photowalk is…

Photowalking is the act of walking with a camera for the main purpose of taking pictures of things you may find interesting. (See Wikipedia: Photowalking). It’s really just a way to get out, take some photos of things you find interesting along the way and then share them with others that share your passion. No critiques, just mutual inspiration and maybe at the end, a little coffee, beer, snack, lunch… you name it.

I am already counting with the presence of few professional photographers from Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Palm Beaches. So… If you are an amateur, you might learn few good tricks. And if you are a Professional… there will probably be photographers of differing skill levels and you might be able to learn something, teach something, or just make some new friends.

In conjunction with the walk, I have set up a Fort Lauderdale Photowalk Flickr Group to upload images and discuss the walk (click here to go to the group).

So if you are interested, drop me a comment here on the blog or head on over to the Flickr Group. The more, the merrier.

Today it was the “Trophy Day” at Dania Optimist Club. This means that today was the last day of the baseball season.

The people responsible for the organization of the teams, uniform, snacks and today’s great party “Trophy Day”, did a great job. We had three huge bouncing houses for the kids, plus hot-dogs, hamburgers, drinks, deserts, etc…

At the end, was the time to give the trophy to the little athletes. What a great Trophy that they got this year.

Monday, May 12th, 2008

I know that maybe where you live the weather might be a little different from here, but what would you do to celebrate Mother’s Day when is a beautiful 96* outside?

Peggy’s Parents Came from South Carolina for my son’s birthday and to celebrate mother’s day here, and after the Birthday (SATURDAY)… we were all exhausted (Click here to check all the pictures - PICTAGE).

So Sunday morning we were all inside the house asking each other about what we would do to celebrate Mother’s day. That’s when the idea of going to the beach and having some lunch around there came up.

Here are some pictures of our day.

P.S. Since I am the Photographer… guess the only person that does not show on these pictures!!!

We all went for a nice lunch at Oasis Cafe (Fort Lauderdale Beach)

Ryan’s Birthday and Mother’s Day

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

Today is my son’s birthday, but is also mother’s day. So My wife and I decided to celebrate Ryan’s birthday yesterday, so today we could focus more on mother’s day.

Ryan just turned 4 years old. We always celebrate his birthday in our house. So we have to organize the backyard, clean the house, take care of the garden, paint the deck, etc… To say the truth, It is a realy hard work just for a birthday, and we do that every single year.

But now, the party is gone and we have one year to rest until Ryan’s next birthday :-) . I just want to wish him a Happy Birthday and show you few of the pictures that I took yesterday.

If you want to see all the pictures, please CLICK HERE.

Here, Ryan is hugging few of his friends ( most of his friends are girls :-) )

The Automate Millionaire Homeowner by David Bach

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Ok. You already know that I love Photography and Video, etc… etc… etc…

But, what I haven’t told you yet, is that I also love to read. The only thing is… I don’t read drama or novels. I just read books that I think that will improve my life in somehow. Example: I love to read books about Photography, Photoshop, Video, Editing Systems, so I can improve the quality of my work. But I also like to read books like; Marketing, Do it yourself (projects), Self Help, HOW to… (books) and any other book that teach me how to be a better person or how to improve my financial status.

I just finished reading a great book “The Automate Millionaire Homeowner - by David Bach”, you can read more about the book or the author at www.finishrich.com.

It is a very easy book to understand and give you a lot of helpful tips about how to built a secure financial future using Real State as a tool. The author also gives a lot of other helpful websites so you can keep you own research. Remember that this book is not about making money fast, or flipping houses.

Anyway.. I thought that this information would be helpful to you. If you have the chance, please don’t hesitate to try this book.

Let me know what you think. OK?
